Hello, my name is Mr. Cumbow. I began teaching at Fairmount in the fall of 2013. This is my 10th year! I also help with the Fairmount Website. I’ve been teaching guitar since I was 19 years old. In the fall of 1998 I taught after school music and worked in technology and taught video editing at The Walker SchoolI have taught music in public schools since 2008 and before that I taught privately since 1988.

My experience and love for music...
I can remember listening the Crocodile Rock and dancing around my room at 8 years old. I  went to High Point Elementary, then to John S. Battle high school. I started learning guitar at age 16. My senior year I received first chair county, 2nd chair region, and all-state choir honors and was voted most talented. I have lived in Bristol, Los Angeles, Nashville, and Atlanta pursuing music education while gaining experience as a guitar instructor, working musician, and studio musician. While in Atlanta (Marietta), I got my bachelor’s degree in music education at
Kennesaw State University, with Jazz guitar as my main instrument of study. I've also studied at Georgia State University, Kent State University, and Appalachian State University.

Some of my favorite things...
Composing, playing and performing music, travelling, sports, chess, hiking, camping, history, boating, teaching and learning.

My favorite quote...
We only fail when we fail to try. When we try, succeed or not succeed, we still gain valuable experience, which helps us learn and grow, so by trying we are actually succeeding!

I am honored to have this wonderful opportunity to teach music at Fairmount Elementary. Go Red Hawks!
